About Our Founder

Lauren Maes founded Free My Friends after witnessing firsthand the devastating impact of unjust immigration detentions in her community. A passionate advocate for immigrant rights, Lauren mobilized neighbors, volunteers, and legal professionals to fight for families torn apart by ICE. Her leadership has helped secure the release of multiple individuals and continues to grow a movement rooted in justice, compassion, and community.
